Ivy snuck off work at 2AM and was at my house by 3AM. She napped, I didn't sleep at all. She woke up at 6 AM and finally decided to go to the hot springs, which was why she was here to begin with. These Hot Springs are in cliffs, on the edge of the Pacific Ocean and are only accessable when there is a negative tide, which happens when the full moon sets. When the tide is not negative, the pools are emmersed under ocean water. But when the tide is negative, the pools are now exposed, and you can enjoy them. The lowest tide (-0.7 feet) was at 6:30 AM, we got there at 7:00. There used to be 3 pools, including the cave of the Hot Spring, tempratures would be at 116 degrees in the hottest spot, now it's about 106 degrees, because what used to be 2 pools is now 1 pool, and the cave is not as hot. Ocean temp 48 degrees. I'd bake at 106 then jump in the ocean at 48. We had to climb down a very steep cliff. You can smell the sulfer from the hot springs as you climb down the cliffs. While climbing down the cliffs, Ivy slipped on her butt and bruised it. Sorry no pictures of her bruised butt.
At 9 AM, the Hot Springs were done, and we were back up the cliff to the road. Ivy barely made it, almost had an asthma attack, and her inhaler was lost during the trek.
We went into Stinson Beach, then back to a nude beach called Red Rock Beach.
It is another 1/4 mile hike to Red Rock Beach. The State of California, for free, laid down new stairs for the Red Rockers to walk down. The old stairs, made out of railroad ties, washed out during El Nino storms 2 winters ago. There is fresh spring water, lots of clay, to cover yourself with and it was hot (80 degrees, which is hot for Red Rock). We both got sunburned, but it was worth it. The clay acted as a sunscreen SPF 10,000. My legs are now so sore, mostly from climbing.
